what our CEO’s secrets to JAM’s success!

From his new HQ in the heart of the West Midlands, James Nichols chats about his journey from banking to healthcare.

Why the move from banking to healthcare?

I wanted to build something that mattered, as much as I loved my finance career, it just wasn’t enough. Then in 2019 I was introduced to the world of health and social care, and it went from there. I’m very proud that June 2025 is JAM’s five-year anniversary. It’s been an amazing journey, with so much more to come.

What makes up the JAM Group?

The core business is providing complex care support at home for clients with brain injuries, spinal injuries, acquired and genetic conditions, learning disabilities and autism, and people with profound mental health needs. I also have a healthcare recruitment business and a healthcare property management business.

How do you balance all your business interests?

It helps that I love working, and I love what we do at JAM. I am also very lucky that I have a supportive family, and brilliant team who make everything happen, plus I don’t sleep much.

How do you remain competitive?

To us, every client is a unique individual – we don’t follow a one size fits all model and we constantly innovate and improve.

Why JAM?

It’s the initials of myself (James), my stepson (Archie) and my wife (Marie). I couldn’t have achieved any of this without them.

What are your career highlights?

Qualifying as a chartered accountant and getting my break with Grant Thornton was huge, but starting JAM, then winning Newcomer of the Year at the Great British Care Awards and being three-time winner of Complex Care Provider of the Year surpassed everything.

What’s the secret to JAM’s success?

It’s pretty simple, but we genuinely care for all our people; our staff, our clients and their loved ones. We support everybody and they support us. You’ve heard the phrase “It’s takes a village to raise a child”. Well I think it takes a community of people to build a successful company.

What’s next for you and the JAM Group?

Keep growing, keep improving, keep innovating and keep raising the bar.
